TikTok is changing the way we SPEAK
According to some TikTok users, we’ve spent years in a “panoramic,” or perhaps a “panini press.” Others are part of the “leg booty” community and strongly oppose the term “cornucopia.”
It’s understandable if this all sounds like a foreign language to you.
TikTok creators have developed the habit of coming up with synonyms for words that they fear will affect how their videos are promoted on the site or will violate moderation rules.
According to critics, the need for these evasive neologisms is a sign that TikTok’s moderation is too aggressive. However, the platform claims that a firm hand is required in a freewheeling online community where many users attempt to post harmful videos.
The new vocabulary is sometimes referred to as algospeak.
