Japan’s bold move: leading the global shift to software-defined vehicles

Japan aims to secure a 30% share of the global market for software-defined vehicles (SDVs), which improve performance via software upgrades instead of hardware changes. This goal is part of a new strategy focusing on software development for next-generation vehicles with advanced digital technologies.

The strategy includes plans to establish a company for operating self-driving trucks, initiate testing of driverless taxis, and create a system for sharing vehicle data from production to disposal by March 2026
