Discover Mars: Largest Meteorite at 2025 Osaka Expo

A significant Mars meteorite, collected by a Japanese Antarctic research team, will be a centrepiece at the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka. This rock, the largest of its kind from Mars, is crucial for understanding the planet’s history of water presence. The Japanese government aims to highlight this meteorite as a key exhibit, alongside potential displays of sand samples from the 2020 Hayabusa2 mission to asteroid Ryugu, in alignment with the Expo’s theme, ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives.’ Discovered in 2000, the Mars rock is approximately the size of a rugby ball and is currently housed at the National Institute of Polar Research in Tokyo. The upcoming Expo is expected to mirror the success of the 1970 Osaka Expo, where a moon rock display attracted significant public interest.
